Sven Einar Backlund

Sven Einar Backlund (born May 31, 1917 in Stockholm , Sweden , † September 1, 1997 ibid) was a Swedish diplomat.

Backlund was the son of Sven Backlund and his wife Herta (née Bergström). After completing his political studies, he became an attaché at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1942. In his role he was posted to Washington DC in 1943, Minneapolis in 1944, San Francisco in 1945, London in 1946 and Oslo in 1947. From 1955 to 1961 he was head of the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, from 1961 to 1963 a member of parliament in Belgrade and from 1964 to 1967 Consul General in West Berlin. Backlund was Sweden's ambassador to the European Economic Community in Brussels from 1968 to 1972 and in Bonn from 1972 to 1983.

Backlund was an employee of the UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld . He received the Ernst Reuter badge .

He was married to Kristina Molander and the couple had two children: Karin (born 1946) and Sven (born 1947).
