Sven Albert Israel Israelsson (born January 17, 1920 in Dala-Järna , Vansbro , † October 9, 1989 ) was a Swedish Nordic combined skier and cross-country skier . In 1948 he won the bronze medal in the individual Nordic Combined competition at the Winter Olympics in St. Moritz, Switzerland .

Career

Israelsson, who started for his hometown club Dala-Järna IK , achieved his first successes at the Swedish championships . He won the championship title for the first time in 1944. In the course of his career he was champion seven times, five of them in singles.

In 1948 Israelsson took part in the Winter Olympics in St. Moritz . In cross-country skiing, he came in 16th place over 18 km in classic style. In the Nordic Combined, Israelsson was still in first place after the two jumps, but fell back to third place after the cross-country skiing and won bronze.

At the World Championships in Lake Placid in 1950 , he narrowly missed the medal ranks as fifth in the individual competition of the combined athletes. In cross-country skiing he finished 25th over 18 km classic.

Israelsson is the father of the multiple Swedish champion and Olympic participant in Nordic combined Sven-Olof Israelsson .
