Sven Gustaf Thorell (born February 18, 1888 in Stockholm ; † April 29, 1974 there ) was a Swedish sailor .

Sven Thorell took part in the Olympic Games twice in the dinghy. At the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928 , he won the most of all participants in the 12-foot dinghy. He won four of the eight races and was thus Olympic champion ahead of Henrik Robert with three wins and Bertel Broman with two wins. Four years later he did not get past ninth place in the Snowbird dinghy in Los Angeles .

From 1933 to 1934 he was President of the Swedish Canoe Association.
