The Swedish Film Institute ( Swedish Svenska Filminstitutet ) was founded in 1963 as a foundation. The founders of the foundation were the Swedish state, the Swedish film industry, Swedish television and TV4 AB .

The Swedish Film Institute aims to

  • support the production of Swedish films
  • to promote the showing of domestic and foreign quality films and
  • To preserve films and material that is interesting in terms of film and cultural history.

In order to carry out these tasks, production grants are given to Swedish film productions on the one hand, and on the other hand the Swedish Film Institute operates a film archive and a library, publishes several magazines (e.g. TM - Teknik & Människa and Zoom ) and reference works on Swedish film such as B. Svensk filmografi , supports film festivals in Sweden and the participation of Swedish productions in foreign festivals, runs its own film studios in Stockholm , sells quality films, film literature and more. The Swedish Film Institute also awards the Swedish Guldbagge Film Prize in fourteen categories at a major film gala in Stockholm every year . Film screenings take place regularly in the screening rooms of the Film Institute.

The activities of the Swedish Film Institute are financed by contributions from the Swedish state and television stations, as well as a ten percent fee on tickets in cinemas.
