Svetlana Ismailovna Khojash

Svetlana Ismailowna Chodschasch (also Svetlana Ismailowna Hodschasch , Svetlana Hodjash , Russian Светлана Измайловна Ходжаш , scientific. Transliteration Svetlana Izmajlovna Chodžaš ; born on 10. November 1923 in Yevpatoria , ASSR Crimea , died on 12. August 2008 in Moscow ) was a Soviet or Russian Egyptologist and ancient orientalist .

Life

Svetlana Chodschasch came from a Karaite family. Her mother died when she was very young. Her father was shot dead by German soldiers in 1941. Khodschash fled to Moscow, where she enrolled at Lomonosov University and began studying ancient art history. In 1944 Svetlana Khodschasch became an employee at the Pushkin Museum . In 1945 she finished her studies. In 1949 she was working Художественное ремесло древнего Египта периода XVIII династии ( handicraft in ancient Egypt during the 18th Dynasty ) PhD .

From 1952 Svetlana Khodschasch took part in the excavations of the Pushkin Museum in the Urartian fortress Erebuni in Yerevan , in 1959 she took over the excavation management. She took part in this work for about 20 years.

In 1972 Svetlana Khodschasch became head of the ancient oriental department of the Pushkin Museum. In 1990 she received her habilitation at the University of Tbilisi with the thesis Древнеегипетская глиптика ( Ancient Egyptian Glyptic ) . Based on the preliminary work of Boris Alexandrowitsch Turajew , Svetlana Chodschasch worked with Oleg Berlew in the 1980s and 1990s to compile a complete directory of all Egyptian antiquities in the museums and university collections of the former Soviet Union .
