Swan Lee was a band from Denmark that was active from 2001 to 2005.
history
Swan Lee is based on a band founded by Pernille Rosendahl ( vocals ), her boyfriend at the time Tim Christensen ( keyboard ), Jonas Struck ( guitar ) and Emil Jørgensen ( drums ) in 1996. Christensen left the group in 1999, which continued as a trio. After the addition of bassist Frederik Damsgaard in 2001, they were called Swan Lee. The origin of the name is a song of Syd Barrett , the first piece on page 2 of the Opel - compilation .
After a series of rejections from contacted record companies , the band decided to found their own label called Gogo Records. In 2001 she made her debut with the album Enter , which sold around 30,000 copies within three years. In 2004, in Germany only in May 2005, the self-titled successor followed, which entered the charts at number one and stayed in the Danish top 40 for a total of 46 weeks. Accordingly, sales were twice as high in less time.
With the song Tomorrow Never Dies , on which Christensen had co-composed, the band took part in a competition in which the title song for the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies was determined. Sheryl Crow emerged as the winner of the tender . Instead of getting movie honors, the song by Swan Lee got a place in the credits for the video game Hitman: Blood Money .
The band broke up in September 2005. Pernille Rosendahl then founded the band The Storm in 2006 with her new partner, bassist Johan Wolgert from the group Mew . Tim Christensen had meanwhile switched to a solo career, with Emil Jørgensen helping him.
style
For Andy Thompson of planetmellotron.com , Swan Lee is 1960s-influenced pop . In her concert review on campuscharts.de , Katrin Jungmann writes about perceived folk , country and pop characteristics. Christian Biadacz calls the style “almost perfect radio music” at the web address bloom.de , which gets by without any effects. Arte.tv sums up Swan Lee's style as "party rock ". The band themselves stated that they play "decent music".
