Sweety is a German-language hit that was composed by Werner Scharfenberger in the Foxtrot rhythm and the lyrics were written by Kurt Feltz . Sung by Peter Kraus , it became a top ten success in Germany.

production

In 1962 Peter Kraus was in the sixth year of his record successes, but so far only had one number one hit with Hula Baby . With his last three singles he was in the top 10 of the German charts. In the summer of 1962 his record company Polydor was planning a new Peter Kraus single. Werner Scharfenberger and Kurt Feltz, who had already written the successful song Schwarze Rose, Rosemarie for Peter Kraus a year earlier, were planned as the team of authors . For the new production, Feltz presented a text entitled Sweety , in which Sweety is promised everything possible in addition to palm groves, moonlight and bliss. Under the direction of Gerhard Mendelson and with the participation of the Werner Scharfenberger Orchestra, the song was produced in the Austrophon studio in Vienna. In July 1962, Polydor released the single with the titles Sweety and Straße der Sehnsucht under catalog number 24 847.

successes

Sweety reached position two in the single charts in Germany and was able to stay in the top 10 and in the charts in general for a total of four months. Kraus reached the top 10 of the German single charts for the 17th and last time . Overall, it is the 38th chart success for Kraus in Germany.

Cover versions

Two cheap labels covered Sweety in the same year the original version was released. Tempo released a version with Ronnie Martis on a normal single, at Baccarola Bob Gerry and the Rivieras sang the title on an EP . Two instrumental versions were released with the French accordionist Aimable (EP on Vogue ) and the Albert Vossen Orchestra (EP on Electrola ). In Finland, His Master's Voice released a single with the singer Marjatta Leppänen, who sang Sweety with a Finnish text by Veikko Vallas aka Sauvo Puhtila.
