The Sweti Dimitar Church ( Bulgarian Свети Димитър , "Saint Dimitar") is the second largest cathedral in Bulgaria after the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia and is located in Vidin . It is named after Saint Dimitrios and is a cultural monument of national importance.

The "Sweti Dimitar" church from the 17th century, originally located in the same place, was made of wood and existed for around two and a half centuries.
The replacement of the episcopal residence of Vidin from the ecumenical patriarchate of Constantinople , announced here in 1868 by the Bishop of Vidin, later exarch Anthim I , was of historical importance . As a result, the Sweti Dimitar Church and the Eparchy were later considered the first autonomous part of the Bulgarian Exarchate, which was later founded .
After the decision to build the new building was made in 1884, the foundation stone for today's cathedral was laid on March 10, 1885. In 1889 the old church was demolished. In October 1900 the first mass was held in Sweti Dimitar. The interior of the church was completed in July 1924.

Sweti Dimitar has a cross- domed structure with three aisles and a transept . The central dome, supported by four free-standing pillars, is 33 meters high.
