Swinging Sixties, street scene in London 1966

As Swinging Sixties is generally described as both a cultural as political and fashionable trend or the zeitgeist of society from the mid- 1960 's.

Starting with political conflicts such as the Cuban Missile Crisis and the already smoldering Vietnam War , a new way of seeing and thinking prevailed in society, which was expressed in the political thinking of the peace movement , in culture , fashion and a completely new way of thinking about freedom. Meanwhile, there was a change in the music scene, which at the same time set new fashion trends ( Woodstock ). Most closely associated with the concept of the Swinging Sixties , however, probably the London Street Carnaby Street be, what became known in the 1960s through its myriad fashion and music shops and was considered a "trend mile" in Western Europe. Anyone who wanted to be youthquaker , “hip” or hippie or just buy drugs went “shopping” there.

The Swinging Sixties are clearly outlined in Michelangelo Antonioni's feature film Blow Up (1966), which reflects a certain apathy of the 1960s, which is in stark contrast to the shrill patterns of LSD fashion such as the paisley pattern and the mini-skirts of a Mary, which were provocative for society at the time Quant stands. The British photo model Twiggy is generally associated with the “face” of the London swinging sixties .
