from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Svyatoslav Mstislavich (Russian Святослав Мстиславич; † 1232 / 1239 ) was Prince of Novgorod and Smolensk .

Life

He was a son of Prince Mstislav of Smolensk, who was Grand Duke of Kiev from 1212 to 1223 . Svyatoslaw was deposed as Prince of Novgorod in 1218 and a year later by his father and replaced by his brother Wseslav. After the conquest of Polotsk by the princes of Smolensk in 1222 he could have become prince of Polotsk , but there is no historical information about it. In 1232 Svyatoslav conquered the prince's throne in Smolensk with the help of Polotsk troops.

After that he was no longer mentioned. He probably died at the latest during the conquest of the Smolensk region by the Tatars in 1238. His brother Wseslaw followed him there as prince.
