Symonds Yat is an English village in the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean . It lies on both sides of the Wye and is therefore divided into Symonds Yat East ( Gloucestershire ) and Symonds Yat West ( Herefordshire ). A hand-pulled cable ferry crosses the river and transports both pedestrians and cyclists.

Overall, the place is a popular tourist destination. Multiple activities such as hiking (from Symonds Yat East, a footpath leads to Symonds Yat Rock above the village , a popular lookout point over the Wye Valley ), camping, canoeing, and kayaking (nearby are the man-made Symonds Yat Rapids , rapids of strength 2) and more leisurely boat tours are possible. Several hotels, cafes and pubs can be found on either side of the river.

A short walk north from Symonds Yat West is Whitchurch , which has a labyrinth and a butterfly garden .

The site is also part of the Wye Valley Walk , a long distance footpath that runs from the river's source in the Brecon Beacons to its confluence with the Mouth of Severn in South Wales.
