Creation and publication

In 1975, when the trio was founded, an appearance at Circus Krone earned them a record deal. Frank Zappa was originally supposed to be the producer for a first album, but he has yet to cancel due to the recording of his own album. Dieter Dierks stepped in for him , in whose studio Symphonic Pictures was finally recorded. In 2010 a remastered new edition of the album was released with a bonus CD containing live recordings from the fall of 1975.

The album sold 12,000 times and was the immediate breakthrough for Schicke Führs Fröhling in the German prog scene. Today it is considered to be one of the most important German albums from the heyday of progressive rock. Jochen Rindfrey from Babyblauen Seiten praises Symphonic Pictures as "truly progressive music that even today [...] doesn't sound a bit out of date". Horst Straske finds “symphonic sound images of truly sublime beauty” on the album, Jörg Schumann describes it as “a masterpiece [...] that one should know”. The eclipsed magazine took Symphonic Pictures on its list of the 150 most important prog albums.
