Synagogue (Friedrichstadt)
The synagogue in Friedrichstadt , a town in the district of North Friesland in Schleswig-Holstein , was built in 1846/47. The derelict synagogue at Binnenhafen 17 is a protected cultural monument .
The Jewish school and the rabbinate building stood on both sides of the synagogue .
SA members from Husum set the synagogue on fire on the morning of November 10, 1938 . The mayor put out the fire so as not to endanger the buildings next to it. In 1941 the building was converted into a residential building.
In 1985 the city of Friedrichstadt bought the synagogue building. After extensive renovation and dismantling, a cultural center was opened there. One of its main focuses is dealing with Jewish culture and history.
