The synagogue in Obbornhofen , a district of Hungen in the district of Gießen in Central Hesse , was built in 1879. The former synagogue in Commenturgasse 9 is a protected cultural monument .

history

The plastered half-timbered building was built on the property of a previous building.

The interior of the synagogue was destroyed during the November pogrom in 1938 .

The synagogue building came into private ownership and was converted into a residential building. It experienced several changes of ownership after 1945.

Commemoration

Since 1988 there has been a plaque on the property wall with the inscription: “Former synagogue built in 1879 under the rabbinate of Upper Hesse - on 9/10. November 1938 desecrated under National Socialist rule and destroyed inside ”.
