Obuda synagogue
The synagogue in Óbuda , the III. District of the Hungarian capital Budapest , was established in 1820/21. The synagogue at Lajos utca 163 is a protected cultural monument .
The Jewish prayer house in the classicism style was built according to plans by the architect András Landherr . The portico is supported by six columns. The tablets of the law are shown on the tympanum .
The synagogue building was used as a studio by Hungarian television for many years. In 2010 it was bought by the Jewish community Egységes Magyar Izraelita Hitközség (Unified Hungarian Jewish Community, EMIH) with the support of the American businessman George Rohr . On September 5, 2010, it was rededicated as a synagogue, and in 2016 the interior, which was restored according to earlier photos, was presented. Today's community is Jewish Orthodox , the chief rabbi is Slomó Köves .
