Alsheim synagogue

The synagogue in Alsheim was built in 1842/43, slightly set back, on the property at Mittelgasse 14/16. At an unknown date, the synagogue was sold. In 1970 there was a complete conversion to a residential building that is still in use today.

synagogue

A prayer hall had existed in the community since 1743, and it was housed in a private house. In 1842/43, a little set back, the synagogue was built on the property at Mittelgasse 14/16. The church had 70 seats. Next to it stood the Jewish school and a building with the teacher's apartment. From 1859 the synagogue had an organ, which was replaced in 1877 by a new organ donated. The fact that there are no reports that the synagogue was the target of attacks during the November pogroms in 1938 allows the conclusion that the building was no longer used in this function at that time and that it was no longer owned by the Jewish people Community found. In 1970 there was a complete conversion to a residential building that is still in use today.

Jewish community Alsheim

The beginnings of the Jewish community go back to the 16th century. It existed from 1750 to the 1930s. The community had a mikveh and a religious school (Jewish elementary school from 1873 ). A religion teacher was employed who also took on the duties of prayer leader and shochet . The dead were buried in the Jewish cemetery in Alsheim.
