The synagogue in Wallertheim , a local community in the Alzey-Worms district in Rhineland-Palatinate , was built in 1883/84. The derelict synagogue at Neustraße 3 is used as the town hall.

history

The inauguration of the synagogue took place on September 5, 1884. Due to the emigration of the Jewish population, it became more and more difficult in the 1920s to reach the minyan , the ten Jewish men required to worship.

During the November pogrom in 1938 the synagogue building was devastated and set on fire, but the fire appears to have been extinguished. Initially, demolition was planned, the building probably remained standing due to the high demolition costs.

After the restitution negotiations were concluded, the Wallertheim community acquired the synagogue building in 1952 and had it converted into the town hall. Major renovations were carried out in 2005/06.

In 2007 a memorial plaque was attached to the facade.
