Torah shrine in Bilgoraj

The synagogue (Biłgoraj) was a synagogue in Biłgoraj near Lublin , a shtetl where 5,010 Jews lived together with 3,175 other residents of the place.

The sacred building was built in 1875 on the site of the old synagogue in Bilgorai from 1728 and inaugurated by Rabbi Zylberman, the grandfather of Isaac Bashevis Singer , who will later describe the shtetl . The synagogue was destroyed when Bilgorai was victim of an air raid on September 8 and 11, 1939 during the German attack on Poland . The Aron ha-Qodesch ( Hebrew ארון הקודש - "the holy shrine") of the destroyed synagogue is remarkable .
