The synagogue in Dzierżoniów ( Reichenbach in the Owl Mountains until 1945 ) in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland was built in 1874/75. The derelict synagogue at 28 Krasicki Street has been a protected cultural monument since 1994 .

history

“In 1937 the Dzierżoniów synagogue was auctioned off to the local gardener Konrad Springer, who also became the owner of the Jewish cemetery. In June 1945 Springer handed the building over to the Voivodeship Committee of Polish Jews in Dzierżoniów and from that time on it served the Jewish community in its old function.

In the years 1968–1980 services were held here only irregularly. At the beginning of the 1980s, on the initiative of the Jews living in Dzierżoniów and the members of the Association of Friends of Dzierżoniów, under the auspices of the Dzierżoniów City Council, the idea of ​​converting the building into a museum for the Dzierżoniów region arose. The general overhaul of the synagogue took place in 1986–1990, the building was adapted to the needs of the museum, but the renovation work was later discontinued. At the end of the 1990s, the synagogue became the property of the Jewish Community in Wrocław. As the renovation and security works were abandoned, the condition of the building gradually deteriorated.
