The former synagogue in Fischach , a market in the Swabian district of Augsburg ( Bavaria ), was built in 1739. The secluded synagogue at Am Judenhof 4 is now used as a doctor's office.

history

From the first half of the 17th century, Jews began to settle in Fischach and they set up a prayer room in one of the Jewish houses. The growth of the Jewish community made it necessary to build a synagogue, which was inaugurated on October 30, 1739. “The appearance of the now completely changed Fischach synagogue can only be reconstructed on the basis of historical photos and drawings. Presumably, the substance of the church, which was consecrated in 1739, was preserved until 1938 and still exists in the outer walls of the building that is now profaned. "

time of the nationalsocialism

During the November pogrom in 1938 there were initially no riots in Fischach. However, on November 15, 1938, SA men from Augsburg destroyed the interior of the synagogue. 21 Torah scrolls , valuable Torah curtains from the 18th century, furniture and ritual tools as well as the community archive were brought to the Gestapo in Augsburg. The synagogue was converted into a gymnasium a little later .

Todays use

The synagogue building was rebuilt after 1945. Today there are medical practices in the building. The location of the Torah shrine can still be seen on the east wall .
