Synagogue in Fordon

The synagogue in Fordon , a district of Bydgoszcz (German Bromberg ) in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland , was built between 1827 and 1832. The derelict synagogue has been a protected cultural monument since 1991 .

history

After the great fire of 1825, the new synagogue was built. It had 500 male and about 250 female places.

During the Second World War , the German occupiers built a cinema in the synagogue, which was housed in the synagogue building until 1988. Then the building fell into disrepair. In 2005 the synagogue was donated to the Fundacja Kultury Yakiza Jewish foundation . Today it is owned by the Casimir the Great University , which organizes cultural events in the building.
