Memorial stone for the former synagogue in Gubin

According to tradition, it was a rather small house of prayer , in which a religion teacher, a shochet and a chasan led the service. In 1839 the community's Jewish cemetery was established . A new building was built in 1878 at Kastanien-Promenade 16 (later Kastaniengraben, now Ulica Dabrowskiego) with a religious school and an apartment on the upper floor. The building was destroyed in the course of the November pogroms on November 9, 1938. The ruins then stood empty and after deportations between 1939 and 1944 it was torn down and not rebuilt. A memorial stone has been commemorating the site since 1998. Only a fragment of the Torah curtain has survived from the synagogue and can be seen in the German Historical Museum .
