Synagogue (Hussjatyn)
The synagogue in Hussyatyn , a Ukrainian city in Ternopil Oblast , was built in the 17th century. The synagogue is a protected cultural monument .
The Renaissance- style synagogue had a defensive character and was intended to offer refuge in the event of warlike threats. After a fire in 1742 the synagogue was rebuilt, whereby it lost its defensive character.
The synagogue was badly damaged during the Second World War . In the 1960s the building was renovated and a museum was set up. In the 1990s it was closed and the now vacant building is now falling into disrepair.
