The synagogue in Karlstadt , the district town of the Lower Franconian district of Main-Spessart ( Bavaria ), was located in Hauptstraße 24. The half-timbered house is a protected monument .

history

There was already a synagogue in Karlstadt in the Middle Ages . However, the Jews were murdered or expelled in the 14th century. In the last third of the 19th century, a Jewish community emerged again , which set up a prayer room in Hauptstrasse 24, where services were held until 1938 . During the November pogrom in 1938 , SS and SA men destroyed the inventory and rituals.

The three-storey gabled house with a half-hip was built in the 16th century and changed in the 18th century. On the massive ground floor there are two half-timbered floors and an attic, each protruding . The framework is adorned in the upper area by St. Andrew's crosses . Various man figures can also be seen.
