Synagogue (Kyllburg)
The synagogue in Kyllburg , a town in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate , was built in 1911/12. The synagogue was on Marienstraße on the southern slope of the Annenberg.
history
In 1900 the childless Catholic innkeeper Jacob Schweitzer from Kyllburg bequeathed his fortune of 50,000 marks to the Jewish community as a contribution to the construction of a synagogue. The slate-covered central building on a square floor plan with an octagonal dome drum was made of rubble stone masonry . The entrance for the men was in the west, the women's gallery was reached via an external staircase on the south side.
During the November pogrom in 1938 , the synagogue was burned down by the National Socialists. The property was not built on again.
Commemoration
In 1988 a memorial stone was erected opposite the synagogue site, on the site of the Protestant parish.
