The synagogue in Le Raincy , a French commune in the Seine-Saint-Denis department in the Île-de-France region , was built in 1930/31. The synagogue is at 19 Allée Chatrian.

history

The Jewish community in Le Raincy was founded in 1926. From 1929 they entered into negotiations with the Consistoire central israélite in Paris to plan the construction of a synagogue together. Construction began in 1930 and the inauguration ceremony took place on September 6, 1931.

architecture

The synagogue was built according to the plans of the architect Henri Guimonneau from Le Raincy, who built many villas here and in the neighboring communities. The 15.50 meter long and 8.90 meter wide synagogue only has decorative elements on the street side. The facade of the synagogue is crowned by the tablets of the law and acroteries are attached to both sides . The roofed portal, above which there is a round-arched triple window, is reached via an outside staircase.

After the entrance, a staircase leads to the three-sided women's gallery . The Torah shrine is on the east side . The bima in the middle of the prayer room shows that after the Second World War a Sephardic congregation emerged when it was re-established . In 1995/96 the interior was completely rebuilt and the building was renovated.

In the 1970s, a community hall was added to the west side of the synagogue, which can also be used as a prayer hall (with a Torah shrine).
