Synagogue in Luže

The synagogue in Luže (German Lusche ), a small town in Okres Chrudim in the Czech Republic , was built around 1780. The derelict synagogue has been a protected cultural monument since 1958 .

The synagogue was built in the middle of a ghetto-like residential area in the Baroque style. Services were held in it until the end of the 1930s .

From the 1940s the synagogue building was used as a storage room. It was restored in the 1990s, and a genisa with around 600 fragments was discovered, including numerous manuscripts and textiles. The synagogue building has been used for cultural purposes since 2002 and documentation about Jewish life in the region is on display.
