Synagogue (Rhineland-Palatinate)
synagogue

The synagogue in Mutterstadt , a municipality in the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis in Rhineland-Palatinate ( Germany ), was originally built in 1838. The synagogue was located at Oggersheimer Strasse 24; it was destroyed in the November pogrom in 1938 .

history

Before the synagogue was built in Mutterstadt, the Jewish community owned a simple prayer room in the attic of a Jewish residential building on the corner of Obere Kirchstrasse and Rheingönheimer Strasse, which was demolished around 1980.

The construction of the synagogue could not be completed at first because the Jewish community lacked the means. The synagogue was only completed and inaugurated in 1838 with the support of the bourgeois community. After 1868 the synagogue was completely renovated after the women's gallery had collapsed.

A complete reconstruction of the synagogue, which amounted to a new building, took place in 1904/05 according to the plans of the architect J. Ad. Called instead.

During the November pogrom in 1938 , SA men set fire in the synagogue, which burned down completely. The remains of the synagogue were removed in the following weeks.
