Former synagogue in Schötmar

The synagogue in Schötmar , a district of Bad Salzuflen in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Lippe , was built in 1888. The secular synagogue is located at Aechternstrasse 19.

history

The new synagogue in Schötmar replaced an almost 100 year old building. This was in a rear extension of a residential building on Begastrasse. The synagogue with a domed roof, built in the oriental style , was a striking building in the townscape of the small town of Schötmar. The design came from the architect Fritz Seiff (1852–1900).

Local SA members set the synagogue on fire on November 10, 1938 . While the interior was completely burned out, the outer walls remained standing. Later a private individual bought the property and converted the building into a residential building.
