Synagogue in Znojmo, postcard from 1900

The synagogue in Znojmo (German Znaim ), a town in the South Moravian Region in the Czech Republic , existed between 1888 and 1938. It was built in 1888 by the Jewish community in the Moorish style and contained grave fragments from the 13th and 14th centuries. The design comes from the German-Austrian architect Ludwig Schöne . The Jewish community numbered 357 people in 1869 and grew to 749 people by 1921. After the invasion of German troops as a result of the Munich Agreement in 1938, the synagogue was burned down by the National Socialists on November 9, 1938, during the Night of the Reichspogrom . In 1940 the remains of the synagogue were demolished.

In 2008 a memorial plaque was erected in memory of the synagogue.
