Synagogue housing
The synagogue Gehaus stood in the municipality Gehaus , today a district of Dermbach in the Wartburg district in Thuringia .
Jewish community Gehaus
The barons of Boyneburg accepted protective Jews in Gehaus since the end of the 16th century . From these, in 1730 there were eight families, the Jewish synagogue community developed (from around 1900: Israelitische Kultusgemeinde), which existed until 1938. In 1826 the Jewish community had 248 members, which made up almost a third of the population. After that the number fell, in 1926 there were still 39 Jews members of the religious community.

The synagogue was built after 1840 on the property at Mittlere Straße 22 of the Barons von Boyneburg. This was used until November 1938. In 1945 the building became the property of the Jewish State Community of Thuringia, which sold it to private owners. From then on, used as a workshop, the building fell victim to a fire on June 9, 1975 and was demolished. The site was subsequently rebuilt with a residential house.
Jewish school
From the first half of the 18th century, the Gehauser Jewish community had a school that was converted into a one-class Jewish elementary school around 1830 . This looked after up to 50 children. The school building was rebuilt and expanded in 1867, a teacher's apartment was created and the facility was combined with the local two-class Christian school to form a simultaneous school that lasted until 1933.
graveyard
The Jewish cemetery was laid out in 1745 and expanded again and again in the following years. It is still partially preserved.
