Synagogue Hagenbach (Pretzfeld)

The synagogue in Hagenbach , a district of the Pretzfeld community in the Upper Franconian district of Forchheim , was built in 1727 and expanded in 1868.

The synagogue was a one-story building with arched windows and a round Misrach window above the Torah shrine . A two-story school building with a teacher's apartment on the upper floor was added to the synagogue in 1827.

During the Nazi era , the authorities declared the building dilapidated in order to legally demolish the synagogue. To prevent demolition, the last owners sold the synagogue and school on September 16, 1938 to a Christian family in the village. Nevertheless, were the November 1938 pogrom of SA stolen househusbands from Pretzfeld the remaining furnishings and community documents and burned. It was possible to prevent the building from burning down. The synagogue was demolished in the same year and a garden was created on the site.
