history

The new synagogue in Lörrach is the rebuilding of a synagogue in Lörrach, which has been discussed for years. From 1808 until it was destroyed in the November pogroms on November 9, 1938, there was a Jewish church in Lörrach north of the market square. A memorial plaque from 1976 and the Synagogengasse remind of this at this location . After the Second World War , especially since the late 1980s, the number of Jewish citizens in Lörrach increased again, so that in 1995 a new community was founded. Until the summer of 2008 they used a prayer room on Berliner Platz. The congregation grew to around 450 members that year.

On June 28, 2007, the foundation stone was laid for the new synagogue, which opened after around a year of construction on November 9, 2008 in the presence of the Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg, Günther Oettinger .
