The Johanneskirche is a sacred building built between 2014 and 2015 in the Lörrach district of Stetten . The brick building complex is clearly visible south of the Stetten town center in the Stetten-Süd residential area and combines a church and parish hall .

In addition to the services of the Protestant Johannesgemeinde, the international (African) community and the Serbian Orthodox community use the premises. The rooms are also used temporarily for cultural events such as concerts or lectures.

history

The Johannesgemeinde is the parish that is located in the Johanneskirche. In 1970, this moved the community members to the new Neumatt residential area in Stetten from the city church to the newly built community center on Suttersmattstrasse. When this building was in need of renovation and the large rooms were no longer needed, it was decided to build again. For this purpose, intensive talks were held between the church building authority in Karlsruhe , the Evangelical church community in Lörrach and the Johannesgemeinde in order to realize a versatile building despite the strict austerity regulations of the Evangelical regional church .

A competition was held for the new building in 2012, in which seven architectural offices took part. The total budget was set at 1.1 million euros. The design by the architects Wilhelm und Hovenbitzer und Partner in Lörrach , who proposed a curved structure with a bell- shaped support , won first place. The engineering group Flösser from Bad Säckingen was responsible for structural planning and engineering supervision . The originally proposed open bell carrier was discarded out of consideration for the neighboring residential area and replaced by a bell inside the church.

In order to finance the construction, the parish of Lörrach sold the former community center and temporarily moved to the nearby Roman Catholic Church of the Holy Family in Käppelestrasse. The construction was estimated at 1.34 million euros.

description

View from the north

The property of the Johanneskirche near the S-Bahn line has a usable area of around 450 square meters and is cut triangular by the underpass of the upper Riehenstrasse and the Riehenstrasse. With its curved, heart-shaped floor plan , the church building nestles against the unusual shape of the property and dispenses with a church tower due to the roof line rising towards the west . The clinker-clad and roughly jointed outer facade varies in the three color nuances of gray-yellow, orange and dark brown. The door and window frames are clad with oak.

The church bell is placed in a window box. At the highest point of the roof a rectangular support frame rises up, which at its highest point carries a simple cross.

In the interior there are various group rooms, offices, toilets and a gallery . The interior walls are not plastered; the exposed concrete shows clear traces of the cladding . The common room is 60 square meters, the actual church room has 55 square meters. The entire property including the associated open space is 854 square meters.
