Christ Church

The Christ Church in Lörrach , a basilica made of reinforced concrete , stands north of the city center at Nansenpark and was built in 1955/56. In addition to the church service, classical concerts by the Lörrach choir regularly take place in the Christ Church .

history

With the acquisition of a plot of land in 1897 and a provisional building plan in 1901, the evangelical parish in Lörrach had already tried to divide the entire parish of the city into a north and a south part. The implementation of the project could only be realized with the construction of the Christ Church in the mid-1950s. After the laying of the foundation stone on September 18, 1955, it was inaugurated on December 30, 1956, in the presence of the then Federal President Theodor Heuss , by the later regional bishop Hans Heidland . Until 1993, the Christ Church housed both the Markus Congregation and the Paul Congregation, which then merged and since then have appeared as a congregation at the Christ Church.

description

Exterior construction

Christ Church

The main portal of the Christ Church is on the gable front. A monopitch roof construction supported on six pillars creates a vestibule. This porch is continued in the aisles to the left and right of the core structure. The façade of the raised central building with a gable roof is lightly plastered and structured vertically. A choir has moved in to the east , which barely bulges outwards. On the north side of the choir there is a free bell tower with a flat gable roof. Its masonry is also lightly plastered between the horizontal steps that run at different distances. The sacristy is located in the lower attic of the tower . Directly below the roof edges there are angular acoustic arcades on all sides and the tower clock underneath.

The Paul Gerhardt House is built across the Christ Church . It has two halls, of which the larger one can be included in the event if necessary during church services.

Furnishing

Elongated, rectangular windows on the sides illuminate the interior of the church. The simple interior is elongated and oriented towards the choir. Window areas at room height create a light altar area. There is a large wooden cross behind the altar . The frescoes attached to the wall like islands depict parables of the sower, the good Samaritan and the wise and foolish virgins . There is a lectern and a baptismal font in front of the slightly raised chancel .

The four bells of the church were cast by the Bochum Association in 1956 . The largest with the nominal c ′ is the eternity bell, followed by the e′-bell as the prayer bell, the g′-bell as the mission bell and the a′-bell as the baptismal bell.
