Johannes Rohlf
Johannes Rohlf (born October 6, 1936 in Bautzen ) is a German organ builder .
Life
Johannes Rohlf is one of nine children born to the married couple Else Rohlf. Küchler and Herbert Rohlf. After finishing school, Rohlf learned organ building from 1950 in his native town in the Hermann Eule Orgelbau Bautzen workshop . He completed his training in 1953 with a successful journeyman's examination. During his apprenticeship years he worked for the Rieger Orgelbau workshops (1959–1960), Alfred Führer and Victor Gonzales (from 1961). After completing the master course at the college for musical instrument making in Ludwigsburg (Oscar-Walcker-Schule) in 1963, he went into business for himself a year later with a workshop in Ruit on the Fildern . In 1986 the company moved into a larger workshop in Neubulach -Seitzental, which was expanded in 1999 to include an assembly hall with an office wing.
His wife Elisabeth Rohlf studied school music at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts and was a high school teacher in Stuttgart, Münster and Esslingen. She founded the “Ensemble für Alte Musik Stuttgart” and gave concerts with the “Schola cantorum Berlin” all over Germany. Together with her husband, she runs the Rohlf organ building in Seitzental.

The opus list includes more than 200 new buildings and restorations in Germany, other European countries and Japan. In addition to organs for churches, Rohlf created practice instruments for universities and numerous (partly historicizing) small instruments for private ownership. Rohlfs new buildings are characterized by a timeless brochure design with modern design of the veil boards . The dispositions and the concepts are based on classic organ building. This includes the exclusive use of natural raw materials that are processed in-house, the construction of casings in solid construction and mechanical actions as well as the use of well-tempered moods .
