The Catholic branch church Sankt Michael in Bobenthal was built in 1779. It belongs to the parish "Heiliger Petrus, Dahner Felsenland" with the parish seat in Dahn .

history

It is not known whether there was a church in Bobenthal before 1700. The current church was built in 1779 and dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel . For this year, the obtained comes Rococo - pulpit . In 1879 the baroque roof turret was replaced by a neo-Romanesque west facade with a tower, designed by architect Franz Schöberl . After the Second World War , the church was largely restored in 1948. In the years 1960–1964, the neo-Romanesque furnishings were replaced by more modern furnishings that corresponded to the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council . In 2009/2010 the interior of the church was redesigned, after which the church was rededicated by the Speyr bishop Karl-Heinz Wiesemann .

Exterior

The church consists of a neo-Romanesque western part and a partly baroque nave . The 37 meter high tower wears a pointed helmet. It accommodates a three-part bell in the tone sequence b 1 - 2 - eb 2 .

The three-sided choir is built onto the nave in the east , also from 1779, the foundation walls are probably even older.

The church is completely made of local red sandstone . The foundation of the church building is already in the groundwater, which has repeatedly led to irreparable structural damage over the years. The entrance to the church is decorated with inlaid stone and ornaments made by local stonemasons in 1879 .

inner space

inner space

The nave dates from 1779, the floor is currently covered with Indian sandstone. During the last renovation, two neo-Romanesque niches were painted in a three-dimensional look based on the model of the church window behind the figure of Mary and Michael. The choir area is limited to the nave by an approximately 10 meter high choir arch made of sandstone, underneath is the celebration altar , which was changed in 2009 . In the same style as the ceiling also shows the organ loft , the Ubhaus - Organ wearing of the 1817th

The interior is now yellow and light blue, the design and execution for this come from church painter Vitus Wurmdobler (Erbes-Büdesheim).

Furnishing

Liturgical equipment

The church houses furnishings designed and manufactured by Klaus Ringwald , including the cross with tabernacle in the chancel, the sideboard , the sedil and the Easter candlestick. This equipment was taken over in 2009 by the disbanded hospital chapel in Dahn .

pulpit

The listed, no longer used pulpit from 1780 is the oldest piece of equipment. It can be assigned to the Rococo .

organ

Organ brochure from 1817

On the gallery is the organ , which was built in 1817 by Wendelin Ubhaus from Kirrweiler , a student of the important organ builder Seuffert . The five-axis prospect is dominated by three round towers that enclose two flat fields that are crowned by classicist vases. In 1879 the organ was moved to the new church and repaired by the organ builder Balthasar Schlimbach from Speyer. In this context, the box bellows system that still exists today was added. In the course of the new church building, the purchase of a new, contemporary instrument was actually planned, but this was not done due to lack of money. After the Second World War u. a. minor repairs carried out by Gabriel Kney until EF Walcker & Cie. from Ludwigsburg installed an electric blower in 1951 and subjected the factory to an overhaul. Special features are that the pedal does not have a sub-bass 16 ′ and only has a range of C – d 0 .

The organ, neglected for decades, was restored in 2016-2017 by the organ building workshop Johannes Rohlf (Neubulach). Since the restoration, the instrument has been a magnet for high-ranking organists, which is why from 2017 3–4 organ concerts will be held every year. The following music recordings of the organ exist: Wilhelm Krumbach - historical organs in the district of Südwestpfalz , Christian Brembeck - La Pastourelle - the Ubhaus organ in Bobenthal .

The arrangement of the organ is as follows:

I Manual C – f 3
