The parish church Inzersdorf is a Roman Catholic church in the district of Inzersdorf in the 23rd district of Liesing in Vienna . It is dedicated to St. Nicholas .

history

Founded in 1217, Inzersdorf has one of the oldest parishes in the Vienna area and the oldest in the Liesing district. After the Turkish siege, the rectory fell into disrepair and Inzersdorf became the center of Protestantism. The previous Gothic building was renovated again around 1742, but it was destroyed in a fire on June 8, 1817. From 1818 to 1820, today's parish church was built as a classical building. It is a circular central building with a dome and a north-facing church tower. In 1845/1846 the landlord Alois Miesbach remodeled and added a sacristy , a choir and an Ionic column portico. His nephew, the industrialist Heinrich von Drasche-Wartinberg , had a burial chapel built for his family on the east side of the church in 1860, which has been used as the Marienkapelle since 1978.

A replica of the rood screen cross from St. Stephen's Cathedral has been installed in the church since 1882 . After the original burned for the most part in 1945, it was reconstructed based on Inzersdorfer models.

Even after the northern part of Inzersdorf was incorporated into Vienna in 1892, the parish area remained unchanged and was now partly in Vienna and partly in Inzersdorf. It was not until 1989 that the northern part of the parish was added to the Salvator parish on Wienerfeld as an exposition, from which the Emmaus parish on Wienerberg emerged. The pastoral care station, which was built in the Neustift district in 1931 , was raised to an independent parish Inzersdorf-Neustift in 1939 , which also meant a reduction in the parish area of St. Nikolaus.

Another renovation and redesign took place in 1980/1981, when the church also received new stained glass windows designed by Anton Lehmden . In 1999 the artist also created a new painted representation of the Way of the Cross and added the unusual 15th Station of the Resurrection to it.

In preparation for the 2017 parish anniversary, the building was restored in coordination with the Federal Monuments Office , the City of Vienna's Magistrate and the Archdiocese of Vienna . In a first step, the wall was drained in 2013 , as well as the laying of a new floor including heating and electronic control. In 2016 Johannes Rohlf created a new organ, including the old Rückpositiv that had been preserved .
