The Evangelical Lutheran Market Church Poppenbüttel is the central church in the Hamburg district of Poppenbüttel . Together with the Simon Petrus Church and the Philemon Community Center, it forms the Poppenbüttel parish of the Hamburg-Ost parish of the North Elbe Church . The Alsterwanderweg concerts have been held there since 1962 .

Building the church

The church was built in 1953/54 under the direction of the architect Walter Ahrendt and consecrated on December 16, 1956. A parish hall and a pastorate complete the church.

Furnishing

A crucifix by Karl Schubert from 1956 and a wooden sculpture by Otto Flath from 1954 come from the furnishings immediately after the church was built . This group, known as the “Flath Altar”, shows “Jesus with his disciples at the Last Supper” in life-size Wooden figures.

The frescoes in the baptistery created by Dieter Wien were added to the church in a second stage in 1961.

In the tower there are four bronze bells from the Rincker bell foundry .
