Surgical instrument

The Chiron-Werke GmbH & Co. KG is a company of the metal and engineering industry and our one of the largest and most important companies in Tuttlingen . In the past, the Chiron works produced a wide variety of goods, such as B. surgical instruments, automobiles or compressed air equipment. Today the company specializes in the mechanical engineering and CNC segment.

history

The Chiron works were founded on June 18, 1921 by Gottfried Schnell and Otto Staebler under the name "Fabriken feinmechanischer Apparate und surgical instruments GmbH". Six months later the company got its current name Chiron . In Greek mythology, this denotes a demigod in the form of a centaur , who was considered wise, fair, immortal and very dexterous. This name was chosen to stand up to the Aesculap company, which already existed at that time , because in Greek mythology Chiron is the teacher of Asklepios .

In 1940 the Chiron works moved to the area in Talstrasse, where they are still located today. With the FZ 32, the Chiron-Werke launched their first manufacturing center in 1977 . But it wasn't until 1982 that the international breakthrough came with what was then the world's fastest vertical manufacturing center: the FZ 16 , equipped with a Franz Kessler motor spindle . The invention for the basket changer contained in the FZ 16 comes from the engineer Eugen Rütschle . After this revolutionary progress in the CNC manufacturing center industry, the Chiron-Werke specialized more and more in machine tool construction and ended the long-term production of other production divisions, such as compressed air equipment and blower production .
