The Système de pose rapide de travures (short SPRAT , in German mutatis mutandis: Fast bridge laying system) is a military fly bridge system of French production and conceptually with the nature of bridge-laying tanks comparable. The heavy bridge laying vehicle from CNIM with five driven axles is equipped with a protected driver's cab .
Development history
The rapid-bridge laying system was developed by the French mechanical engineering company CNIM for the French army in the late 2000s. The procurement program was initially designed for 18 machines, but for budget reasons only ten vehicles were delivered between 2011 and 2013, including a simulator. The total cost was 166 million euros. The first five SPRATs were handed over to the 13e régiment du génie in 2011 .
technology
The laying vehicle is a special vehicle with the wheel formula 10 × 10, all five axles are steerable. It is powered by a V-eight-cylinder diesel engine from the Mercedes-Benz brand , which has an output of 560 kW (762 hp). The two-part driver's cab offers space for two people and has an integrated NBC protection ventilation system. It is also armored and offers protection against mines and fire with weapons up to a caliber of 7.62 mm. The 10 × 10 vehicle transports two bridge elements. They can be laid separately or together, connected to form a single bridge. The laying is done with the help of a bracket that is arranged in the middle, parallel to the longitudinal axis . During the laying, a hydraulic support on the front of the vehicle is lowered in order to guarantee sufficient stability while the bridge is being laid.
In addition to the 10 × 10 installation vehicle, there is the PTS (Porte-travures Supplémentaires) transport vehicle, which transports another set of bridge segments for the installation vehicle on a special semi-trailer. A Scania R580 (6 × 6), whose driver's cab is also equipped with ballistic protective equipment, serves as the towing vehicle .
