Systemic disease

As a systemic disease (synonym: systemic disease ) are all diseases referred, that affect an entire organ system, such as the blood ( leukemia , anemia ), the central nervous system or muscles as a whole. In a broader sense, those diseases are also referred to as systemic or generalized that have a more or less unspecific effect on the entire body, such as diabetes mellitus , rheumatism , psoriasis , sarcoid , systemic lupus erythematosus , scleroderma or cystic fibrosis .

A similar term is generalization .

The systemic diseases contrast with the localized diseases in which an organ or part of an organ is affected by the disease.
