Télévision Tunisienne 2 ( Arabic التلفزة التونسية ـ الوطنية 2) is a state-owned Tunisian television broadcaster . It is the second oldest Tunisian broadcaster after Télévision Tunisienne 1 .
history
In June 1983, a second Tunisian television program RTT 2 ( Arabic إ.ت.ت. 2) started on a UHF transmitter network. However, this station was discontinued in 1989 and instead broadcast the French channel Antenne 2 , since 1992 France 2 , terrestrially in Tunisia.
However, between 1990 and 1994 there was the Chaîne du Maghreb arabe , which was held in Tunis 2 in 1993 ( Arabic تونس 2) was renamed, in Tunis and the surrounding area, hourly broadcasts of a second Tunisian television program on the VHF channel of the Italian program Rai Uno, which is also broadcast in Tunisia .
On November 7, 1994, Canal 21 ( Arabic قناة 21) started a Tunisian window program lasting several hours on the France 2 network. As with the first Tunisian television program, the number 21 in the station name was used to refer to a specific date. Here it was the Tunisian “Youth Day” on March 21st , because the new program was aimed at a young audience.
After the re-election of Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali in 1999 and subsequent critical reporting by the French media, Canal 21's program was expanded in October 1999 and France 2 has not been broadcast terrestrially in Tunisia since then. In 2007 the name was changed to Tunisie 21 ( Arabic تونس 21) changed.
In the course of the revolution in Tunisia in 2010/2011 and the fall of Ben Ali, the station got its current neutral name in January 2011.
