The Téméraire class was a class of 107 third rank ships of the line with 74 cannons that were built for the French Navy between 1782 and 1813 . This is so far the class with the most built large warships.
The class was designed by Jacques-Noël Sané as part of the fleet expansion program initiated by Jean-Charles de Borda .
The design was much appreciated in the UK, where hijacked ships were eagerly put into service and the design was even copied with the Pompée- class and America- class .
