Tõnis Palts (born March 29, 1953 in Kuressaare ) is an Estonian businessman and politician.

Life and work

After graduating from high school, Tõnis Palts studied radio technology from 1971 to 1976 at the Tallinn University of Technology .

With the recovery of Estonian independence, Tõnis Palts became a successful entrepreneur and multimillionaire. From 1993 to 1999 he was a member of the supervisory board or managing director of Levicom Cellular AS , which he founded , from 1996 to 2001 chairman of the supervisory board of Ritabell AS , from 1997 to 2000 member of the board of directors of Ringhäälingu Saatekeskus AS , from 1996 to 2001 chairman of the supervisory board of the Tallinn cable television company and of 1999 to 2002 chairman of the supervisory board of OÜ Levicom BroadBand .

After 2000, Palts went into politics and joined the new Res Publica party . He is considered one of the party's major financiers. From June to December 2001 Palts held the office of Lord Mayor of Tallinn . From April to October 2003 he was Minister of Finance of the Republic of Estonia in the cabinet of Prime Minister Juhan Parts . From September 2003 to October 2004 Palts was a member of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ), before he was again Lord Mayor of Tallinn from October 2004 to November 2005.

Private life

Tõnis Palts is married to Karmen Palts and has six children.
