Pottery wasp's nest

The potter wasps (or pill wasps , Eumenes ) is a genus of the solitary fold wasps . Seven species live in Germany.

The female builds individual brood cells from a mixture of clay, which are placed on wood or stone or hung on plant stems. An egg is deposited in the brood cell .

The female then goes on the hunt, stuns the prey ( caterpillars and other insect larvae ) with a prick of her stinger and then carries it into the nest on the fly . Finally, the cell is completely closed.
