The Túnel Engenheiro Raymundo de Paula Soares , popularly known as the Túnel da Covanca , is a road tunnel in the city of Rio de Janeiro , Brazil . It runs through the Serra dos Pretos-Forros and is located between the districts of Jacarepaguá (south portal) and Água Santa (north portal), near the toll booth .

The tunnel is part of the route of the Linha Amarela motorway , which connects Ilha do Fundão with the Barra da Tijuca district and was opened in 1997. It consists of two parallel tubes, each 2187 meters long.

The tunnel was built using Swedish technology and is one of the largest inner-city tunnels in the world.
