Túrógombóc
Túrógombóc [ tu: ro: gombo: ts ], in German: Quark dumplings, cottage cheese balls or cottage cheese noodles - in the Austrian cuisine dumplings called - is a Hungarian dish.
“Túró” stands for cottage cheese or quark (curd cheese ) in Hungarian . Túrógombóc are dumplings with curd cheese incorporated into the dough. Other variants are fillings with a mixture of quark with plum or apricot jam or poppy seeds (mák). In Hungary , a portion of "túrógombóc" is usually served with three dumplings and mostly with sour cream and / or icing sugar .
Emergence
The dish was created in times when there was a lack of protein and fat in society due to the inadequate meat supply in Hungary . The quark was cheaper than meat products and provided almost the same nutrients .
