Turkish-German Academic Association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Turkish-German Academic Association (TDAB) is an association “in which people from Cologne of Turkish origin are committed to education, equal opportunities and better prospects for migrant children”.

Private high school Dialog

On May 16, 2007, the TDAB received approval from the Cologne district government to operate a state-approved, two-tier high school in Cologne with effect from August 1, 2007 after all requirements of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia have been met. The new grammar school is called “ Privatgymnasium Dialog des TDAB e. V. "(PGD). The start was with two fifth grades on August 6, 2007.

A special feature is that fifth graders start with two foreign languages (English and either Turkish or French) as compulsory subjects. The language of instruction is German. The aim is to ensure that around half of the classes consist of children from immigrant families. "We are not an elite school, but we want to encourage people to be elitist," said the chairman of the TDAB, Alp Sarac. They want to make an offer for gifted children who want to grow up with a “multicultural international perspective”. That promises the best prospects for professional life.

The association draws on many years of experience in the field of homework supervision and tutoring at various Cologne locations and belongs to the network of the Gülen movement .

criticism

The establishment of German-Turkish high schools has raised questions about the background of the school authorities, especially about a possible connection to the Turkish preacher Fethullah Gülen , who, according to experts, wants to educate the “leaders of tomorrow” with his elite schools. Arp Sarac denies a connection to Gülen, which he does not want to "demonize" either. Gülen is a widely read, "constructive thinker who knows no dogmas".
