Türkiye Barış Meclisi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Türkiye Barış Meclisi TBM ( Peace Council of Turkey ) is an association that was founded on the International Day of Peace, September 1st 2007. Previously, numerous human rights activists, artists and politicians had met several times for a conference called Türkiye Barışını Arıyor Konferansı ( Turkey Seeks Peace Conference) and discussed how civil organizations can contribute to internal peace in Turkey .

The focus is on a democratic and peaceful solution to the Kurdish question in Turkey. In addition, solutions are sought to reduce poverty, unemployment, corruption and the east-west divide.

Political proposals

This article or section consists mainly of lists, which should be replaced by running text . Please help Wikipedia improve this. More about is here to find.

Shortly after the establishment, the main concern was published:

  • The Kurdish question should no longer be viewed as a terrorism problem, because in the opinion of the TBM, the Kurdish question primarily affects the population.
  • The armed struggle as a way to solve the Kurdish question should be given up on both sides.
  • Nationalism and opposing hostility are to be ended.
  • The ten percent hurdle, which primarily keeps the Kurds away from politics, is to be lifted. Political groups and organizations should no longer be criminalized by law: instead, political activities should be made possible for them. In addition, Kurdish politicians in particular should be taken seriously by the Turkish public, as they play an important role in resolving the conflict.
  • In order to avoid discrimination against other ethnic groups, a new, common political identity is to be created that promises political and social equality. For this reason, a new civil law is to be drawn up.
  • An association for the bereaved of those who died in the war is to be founded, which represents both sides equally.
  • The integration of women in political and social life should not be made more difficult by law.
  • An amnesty regulation is to be initiated.
  • Political murders by unknown groups or organizations should be investigated and their perpetrators should be brought to justice.
  • The village protection system , which mainly plays off Kurds against each other, is to be ended.
  • Factors that influence migration from east to west should be investigated and reduced.

Economic proposals

  • The economic inequality between eastern and western provinces and the high level of poverty in the east are to be abolished with the help of various development projects (irrigation projects, electricity supply, cotton production, textile industry, etc.). The provinces of Erzurum , Van , Diyarbakir , Batman and others in the regions of Eastern Anatolia and Southeast Anatolia are particularly affected by economic inequality .
  • Education in the east is to be strengthened and new jobs created.

Social and cultural suggestions

  • The existence of different ethnic groups should be recognized both historically and socially.
  • The official use of the Kurdish language in public should be made legally possible - and not made more difficult.
  • Research into the Kurdish language and literature should not be prevented, but rather promoted.
